The beautiful city of Lagos accounts for over 60 percent of all industrial and commercial activities, and a quarter of the nation’s GDP. If Lagos were a country, it would be the fifth largest economy in Africa. Lagos is one of the fastest growing cities in the world, growing 10 times faster than New York. 86 immigrants enter Lagos every minute of the day, which is the highest in any city in the world.
Lagos, going by these credentials, has always been faced with peculiar challenges and as such requiring special attention and needs. But how can we as a state attend to and manage these special needs?
In recent times, the Lagos State Government has made a conscious effort to improve its economy and standard of living of the citizens. The following are some of the measure being put in place by the current administration to help improve the process of land acquisition and purchase in Lagos state.
Hard times await land grabbers.
The land grabbers who forcibly take other people’s property are set to face hard times. They are popularly known as “Omo Onile” in Lagos State. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has inaugurated a 5-man Task Force to deal with issues of land grabbing in the state. This is to ensure that the rights of the lives and property of citizens across the state are secured and protected by law.
Ambode approves land for installation of surveillance camera in Lekki
Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has granted immediate approval for the provision of land to the Nigerian Navy in the Ibeju Lekki area of the state to install surveillance equipment to monitor activities on the Nigerian territorial waters and a little beyond the exclusive economic zones of the country.
This will improve our tourism potentials especially tourist activities on water.
Creation of Help desk to facilitate application for C of O
To help clear the backlog of applications for certificate of occupancy, the state government has decided to set up a help desk for applicants. All applicants with outstanding applications in the Lands Bureau have since been enjoined to take advantage of the help desk which has been equipped to swiftly attend to old and new applications for C of O.
